America’s Impressionism: Echoes of a Revolution
June 11, 2021 – September 5, 2021
This exhibit shows the evolving work of Impressionism through French and American influences. There will also be works of art by Texas and San Antonio artists in this collection.
Nature, Power, and Maya Royals
July 14, 2021 – February 27, 2022
SAMA collaborated with the Belize Institute of Archaeology and the University of Texas at San Antonio. This exhibit displays objects from the Mayan period (AD 250-900) that were discovered at the site of Buenavista del Cayo, Belize.
Texas Biennial: A New Landscape, A Possible Horizon
August 20, 2021 – December 5, 2021
This impressive exhibition will be featuring some of Texas’ favorite contemporary artists and ‘Texpats’; native Texans working in any part of the world. 51 artists will be displaying their best works in sculpture, film, photography, installation, sound, painting, printmaking, and public art. Texas Biennial is partnered with 4 San Antonio museums: SAMA, McNay, Ruby City, and Artpace.
40 Years, 40 Stories: Treasures and New Discoveries
October 16, 2021 – January 2, 2022
SAMA will be celebrating its 40th anniversary this year and will be celebrating with this marvelous exhibit. Not only will this exhibition include artworks that have not recently been on display, but there will also be a theme of ‘behind-the-scenes’. 40 Years, 40 Stories will also show the results of conservation treatments on two paintings.

Limitless! Five Women Reshape Contemporary Art

These trailblazing artists will display their artworks in different mediums. The exhibition features Martine Gutierrez, Letitia Huckaby, Yayoi Kusama, Sandy Skoglund, and Jennifer Steinkamp.
Optical Dazzle: Op Art at the McNay
June 10, 2021 – September 5, 2021
A sensory art experience, Op Art works the eyes to cross, twitch, and even ache. The installation will feature screenprints, paintings, and sculptures.
Is It Real? Staging Nature
April 22, 2021 – October 24, 2021
A unique exhibition demonstrating the technical side of recreating aspects of nature in performance. You will get to see the transformation of materials into nature as well as the limitations.

A lively display of the sensational story of the Hollywood Western of the late 1960s to the 1980s. The exhibit features costumes, movie clips, and vintage movie posters from acclaimed Western films. Visitors will be immersed in the history and artistry of the Western genre.
Werner Segarra’s Vaqueros de la Cruz Del Diablo
September 25, 2021 – January 25, 2022
Photographer Werner Segarra showcases his images of the Northern Mexican Vaquero. Spanning of over 20 years and 60 images, Segarra captures the everyday life of the vaquero.

Voyage to the Deep
May 8th, 2021 – September 25th, 2021
This exhibit is based on the adventures of Captain Nemo in Jules Verne’s novel, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. The notable Nautilus submarine will be on display for children to climb aboard and explore the workings of a deep-sea submarine. If the children are feeling extra adventurous, they can also explore the lost world of Atlantis.

To celebrate Ruby City’s one year anniversary, they will be displaying two new installations. The exhibitions will be displayed online until the reopening of the museum. Both exhibits examine migration and geographic movement.

A one mile path will be magnificently illuminated with a magical light display. These wonderful installations were created by local and international artists. Enjoy these beautiful lights while roasting s’mores.
Frida Kahlo Oasis
May 8, 2021 – November 2, 2021
Casa Azul, Frida Kahlo’s historic home, will have its own rendition at SABG. There will be over 2,000 square feet of native Mexican plants that deeply influenced Kahlo and her works. SABG will offer several engaging programs inspired by Frida Kahlo and Mexico; curated tours, art history lectures, culinary & cocktail workshops, and adult & family events.
