Admirers of Selena Quintanilla-Pérez have danced, shed tears, and shared memories together in Selena Forever/Siempre Selena, an intimate exhibition featuring photographs and music of the late Tejano Queen.
In 1992, San Antonio-based photographer John Dyer was on assignment for Más Magazine when he photographed the rising star wearing gold hoops, black high-waisted pants, and her signature beaded bustier, which Selena designed herself. Two years later, when Dyer photographed Selena again for Texas Monthly at San Antonio’s Magic Theatre, Selena was a Grammy Award-winning artist. 26 years after her sudden death, a selection of John Dyer’s photos of the south Texas icon are on view at the McNay through August 1, 2021.
